When should I test my well and what should I test for?
Municipalities are required to test their water regularly according to a schedule provided by state or local health departments. There is no requirement to test a private well, except when first drilled, the pump is changed, or by a lenders request. Private well owners are responsible for making sure their water is safe.
Since you cannot see, smell, or taste most contaminants, private well owners should test on a regular basis. It is not possible to test for "everything". You must request specific tests. The EPA suggests testing for Nitrate, Nitrite, TDS, and Total Coliform Bacteria annually. Water collection procedures vary depending on the type of test being done. For a reliable test result, call our trained staff or use the sample bottle(s) provided by our laboratory and follow the instructions given. EFFEX provides the necessary bottles and preservatives at no additional charge. Delivery of the samples can be made in person, shipped to our lab, or picked up by one of our technicians. Several tests require special handling, please contact us prior to submission in order to make sure these conditions are met.
What should I do if my well tests positive for bacterial contamination?
Purchase bottled water or disinfect before use.
For immediate use: Boil water vigorously for 2-5 minutes and refrigerate.
Well treatment: Shock Chlorinate-Click here In Nevada, do not disinfect prior to initial repeat compliance samples. Call your local Health Department with any other questions regarding well disinfection.
I have high levels of chemicals in my water? What do I do?

Is EFFEX open on the weekend?
We are not currently open on the weekend, however if you call ahead we may be able to make a special arrangement to meet your needs. Some tests dropped off on Thursday or Friday require weekend hours and may result in additional charges. Please call ahead to make arrangements for after hours testing or drop-offs.
What are the conditions for payment?
If you require routine testing you can open an account by calling the lab. Our representative can answer your questions about our capabilities, prepare a quotation based on your needs, and set up a service schedule for you. Prepayment is required for all non-routine testing clients and routine clients without an approved EFFEX CreditApplication on file. Our standard billing terms are net 30 days from the invoice date. EFFEX also accepts cash, check, or credit card payments. We do not keep petty cash in the lab so please bring the exact amount owed.
